Credit Management – Orange, CA
Eric Greer
Division Credit Manager
In September of 2012, I was only a few months removed from college when the opportunity to work for Consolidated Electrical Distributors came about. The idea of “running your own office” was intriguing to me, but at that point I had no idea what it all meant. As my training got started, I had several experiences that would ultimately propel me to where I am today, serving as Division Credit Manager for CED’s Sacramento, CA credit office.
The first few months of the credit management training program were spent doing a ton of data entry and learning about everything CED does. After that my manager, Brian Gausman, slowly began teaching me about his daily routine in credit. I learned that the title of Division Credit Manager does not solely mean being responsible for monitoring the receivables, but also being responsible for purchasing supplies, fixing computers, coordinating office moves, being payroll administrator, hiring manager, liaison between Profit Center and attorney, fixing IT issues and pretty much everything in between.
Their real world experience and coaching have taught me many lessons that could never be found in a textbook
One of the most important lessons I learned while training in a CED credit office was how to maintain the partnership with our Profit Center (PC) Managers and help them be as successful as possible. We assist our PC Managers in making the best business decisions in order to accomplish their goals. “We are here to offer assistance and counsel them along the way. If you see them stub their toe, that happens, but we need to step in before they break a leg.” That was an idea that Kris Kloser, my supervisor at the time, instilled in me. With that being said, some of my PC Managers and I have now experienced a couple of those “broken legs”. As a result, we have developed trust in each other, understanding that we have the same goals and that our lines of communication are always open.
This company has given me the opportunity to run my own office and has offered a huge amount of support along the way.
Most importantly, the support I have received from both my colleagues and my supervising Region Credit Manager has been immense. Each of our Division Credit Managers has worked hard to be where they are today, running successful offices all over the country. Their real world experience and coaching have taught me many lessons that could never be found in a textbook. Their advice didn’t always apply to my exact situation, but the same concepts were always there. This guidance is something that I value more than anything.
CED has allowed me to become a Division Credit Manager at a faster pace than I could have imagined. This company has given me the opportunity to run my own office and has offered a huge amount of support along the way. If you are interested in working on a daily basis with a team of extremely successful people that will push you to your limits, I would highly recommend looking into CED’s credit management training program.
